Six people were arrested and beaten up by locals during a robbery at a pipe factory in Sreepur, Gazipur. They were later handed over to the police. The incident took place at PPS Plastic Pipe Industries in Satkhamair village of the upazila around 10:45 pm on Monday.

The arrested people are from Mymensingh, Narsingdi, Chandpur, Bogra and Naogaon districts. They are between 21 and 45 years old. Local residents said that only two security guards are present in the factory, which has stopped production. An official of a bank lives on the third floor. He saw suspicious movements and informed a local resident and the police.
Local resident Jahangir Alam described the incident and said that a group of 10 to 12 people climbed the factory gate and entered inside at around 10:45 pm yesterday. Some others were staying on the road outside the factory with a truck. The bank official informed the Sreepur police and a local person named Md. Shahid. The members of the robber gang beat up Maqbul Hossain, who was in charge of security, and tied his hands and feet. Then they started looting. After receiving information from the bank official, Md. Shahid and his relatives quickly came to the spot with the people around. Later, the locals joined them. They surrounded the factory. At that time, six members of the robber gang tried to escape from the back of the factory. Later, the locals entered the factory and beat up the six members. At that time, the police arrived at the spot. Later, the six members were handed over to the police.
Abdul Barik, officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station, said that two members of the robber gang were injured while trying to escape by climbing over the wall. They have been admitted to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital in Gazipur. The remaining four are in police custody. Legal action is being taken against them.
